A viral YouTube video shows a group of black residents from the south side of Chicago discussing the loss of social services for the city’s poor because of the influx of illegal immigrants. A woman stands to condemn the situation and suggest that immigrants should be sent home. A moderator (a black man) asks her, “Who did you vote for in the last election?” She says “Biden.” He replies, “This migrant influx that we’re dealing with right now – this is your fault!”
He’s right. She wasn’t directly responsible for it, but she was indirectly. Politicians are elected, and those who vote for politicians who get elected bear responsibility for policies enacted by those politicians. (By the way, not voting at all is no better; those who don’t vote are both lazy and guilty!) Residents of cities and states are upset at what leaders they voted for are doing! It’s like hitting yourself in the face, then blaming your black eye on your fist. No, that black eye you’re dealing with – that’s your fault!
This is a sad reality that a dumbed-down electorate has failed to grasp. Every election, politicians promise the world – health and wealth, peace and justice, and people take the bait: Government will fix all our problems! History quiz: When have politicians solved a problem by taking control of it? Only never. Prophecy quiz: When will this happen? Only when Jesus reigns in His Kingdom.
Theologians (who read their Bibles) know the unremitting spread of immorality, poverty, violence, and disease will never be eradicated until Jesus comes. Satan is the god of this world (2 Cor. 4.4), and it is under his power (1 John 5.19). He is the ‘father of lies’ (John 8.44); he promises good, but ‘steals, kills, and destroys’ (John 10.10). Even so come, Lord Jesus! (Rev. 22.20)
While we cannot completely stem the tide of Satan’s influence in the world, Christians should work to defeat evil and do good. Scripture exhorts us to be kind, do good to all men, care for the needy, even suffer unjustly for doing what is right (1 Peter 2.11-25). We can’t eliminate sin and its effects, but at the Judgment Seat of Christ, we will each answer for the deeds we have done (Rom. 14.10-12; 1 Cor. 4.4-5; 2 Cor. 5.9-10).
The question is, what response will our actions now elicit on that future day? We’ll want to hear Jesus say, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matt. 25.21). For those who do, that day will be joyful. But judgment day will be tragic for some Christians. Their actions on earth were “wicked,” and they experience weeping and anguish (Matt. 25.26-30). We who live in America must know that judgment on that day will include politicians we voted for. If they spread wickedness, they will be judged, but we will be judged for endorsing them.
God sent the prophet Ezekiel to proclaim His truth to Israel, and warn them of the results of their evil actions. But then God warned Ezekiel: If he failed to speak out against the wicked, the wicked person would die, “but his blood I will require at your hand” (Ezekiel 3.18). This is the law of complicity: If we fail to stand for truth, we share in the guilt of those who do wickedness. For Christians today, if we vote for those who embrace and spread evil, we share in the guilt of their actions.
What does this have to do with abortion? To put it bluntly, abortion is the great sin of our day, the unthinkable brutal killing of human beings in the womb. This savagery is happening on a scale that dwarfs other holocausts in human history. Historians estimate that 138 million were killed by brutal dictators in the 20th century – Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Idi Amin, Pol Pot, and others. By the way, that’s more than in all previous centuries combined! Now consider this: According to the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion group, there are about 73 million abortions in the world every year. That means that every two years we are quietly killing more human beings than all the brutal dictators of the entire 20th century combined. We are living in the midst of a holocaust!
One political party has made the endorsement and promotion of this killing the centerpiece of their political platform. Democrats are focused on making unrestricted abortion the law of the land. In a recent interview, Democrat senator Amy Klobuchar announced that the 2024 election is all about electing Democrats “to codify Roe v. Wade into law.” Already this year, Democrats have put forward a bill to “celebrate” abortionists. Vice President Kamala Harris has visited an abortion facility. President Biden has made abortion his top priority, pledging to “restore” the provisions of Roe, and at the same time enabling federal agencies to aid those getting abortions, and to prosecute and imprison pro-lifers.
Liberal media outlets are trying to confuse Christians on this issue. An MSNBC commentator recently declared that Christians “were pro-choice from the time of Jesus through the time the Beatles broke up,” and Christians “invented the issue of abortion as a religious, not just as a political issue.” A Politico article entitled “Why Christians – and Republicans – Should Reconsider the Premise that ‘Life Begins at Conception,’” claims that opposition to abortion was a political move by Republicans. The author writes, “The idea that life begins at conception is far from a universally agreed upon matter of historical Christian doctrine. When viewed in the long history of the Christian tradition, it is actually a minority opinion.”
Since when have liberal commentators cared about the views of Christians in Church history? On topics like creation, miracles, the virgin birth, the resurrection, the return of Christ, not to mention contemporary issues like marriage, divorce, the role of women, sexuality, or alcohol, they mock biblical teaching. When some Christians have strayed from the truth, like those who endorsed slavery in the 18th and 19th centuries, or German Lutherans who defended the Nazis in the 1930s and 40s, the media is happy to condemn them. But on an issue where the Bible is clear, they try to convince Christians that Scripture isn’t actually “pro-life.” They try to win as many as possible to support their cause through lies, and when that fails, mock those who steadfastly hold to truth.
Of course, none of these liberal voices appeals to the Bible. That is where God’s Truth is revealed. God’s moral law is based in the Torah, the Old Testament Pentateuch. The declaration of Exodus 21.22-25 is clear: Causing the death of either a pregnant woman or her child is punishable by death. An unborn baby is as much a person as the mother. Psalm 139.13-16 describes God forming the unborn child (cf. Jer. 1.4-5). John the Baptist was filled with the Spirit in his mother’s womb (Luke 1.39-45)! Nowhere in Scripture is there any idea that unborn babies are anything but fully human. Life, from the moment of conception, is valuable and worthy of respect.
Christians, take note. There is an effort to confuse you on the issue of abortion. A political party is staking its future on the promotion of abortion. They don’t want you to vote in line with God’s Word, which teaches that human life is immeasurably valuable, and abortion is wrong. Sadly, some Christians have dismissed the killing of the unborn, or justified voting for politicians who support abortion by saying ‘they are personally against it.’ But if you vote for a politician or a party that supports this killing, and as a result the holocaust of abortion is not confronted, the moderator’s words at the beginning of this article are for you: “This is your fault!”
If you vote for politicians who promote abortion and they are elected, the killing of the unborn will be abetted. Judgment will come on those who shed innocent blood, but you will be complicit in that evil. To paraphrase God’s warning to Ezekiel, “that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.”
