Psalm 127:1-2; 1 Samuel 1-3

Ecclesiastes 4:12 says two people can resist an attacker, but three people is even better, because “a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.” Last week we saw that God’s blueprint for the home involves a man and a woman: This week we discover that it takes something more. The third strand in a strong ‘family cord’ is the Lord.

The Principle Stated: Psalm 127:1-2

Without the Lord, home-building is an exercise in futility.

Human effort is no substitute for the Lord’s participation.

The Principle Shown: A Tale of Two Families (1 Sam 1-3)

With the Lord: Samuel’s Home – What God Built
      The human problems
      The divine possibilities
Without the Lord: Eli’s Home – What God Destroyed
      The divine possibilities
      The human problems

Unless the Lord builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it.
Psalm 127:1a (NAS)
