James 2:1-13
Prejudice: We don’t like talking about it. Too painful, perhaps, but maybe too convicting, too. Christians have shown prejudice more than we care to admit down through history, and we still do today. It’s time to face the Giant of Prejudice.
Definition: Prejudice Is Pre-judging
· Baseless and usually negative attitudes
· Discriminating against a group
· Potential areas of prejudice today
· Standing against sin is not prejudice!
· Because God is not prejudiced…
Talkin’ ‘bout Grace! (The good…before the bad and the ugly!)
· God does not show partiality (Rom 211 Eph 69 Col 325)
· He loves the whole world (Jn 316 1 Tim 24 2 Pet 39 1 Jn 22)
· His grace brings salvation to all men! (Titus 211)
· Therefore, prejudice does not reflect godliness!
Scripture’s Description and Prescription (James 2:1-13)
· The sin of showing personal favoritism (1-4)
· Why showing personal favoritism is wrong (5-11)
· Solution: Live in preparation for coming judgment (12-13)
Application Questions
· How am I most prone to showing prejudice?
· Have I confessed my sinful tendency to God?
· Have I claimed God’s forgiveness and power to live anew?
My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don’t show favoritism.
James 2:1 (NIV)
